Frequently Asked Questions
I’m a new client, what do I need to know?
Welcome to the family!! We’re so glad you’re here. There is some important information you should know:
Please provide a clear safe path free of pet waste and foliage to your pool, equipment and its surrounding area. Tracking pet waste onto pool decks is not only unsanitary but when it rains, all the waste will then flow into your pool. This can make swimmers sick. We also use equipment to keep your pool clean and if there is pet waste on the pool deck or path to your pool, our equipment will come in contact with the waste. This not only can damage our equipment, but it can also contaminate other pools. ***If your pool area has an accumulation of pet waste and we are not able to clean your pool without dragging our equipment through it, your pool will be skipped that week. We will notify you via email if this happens.
Do I still receive service if it’s raining?
Here in Florida, it rains… a lot! We provide full service for your pool when the weather cooperates. Heavy rain, wind, thunder and lightening we provide chemical service and empty baskets only. If we cannot clearly see your pool, we cannot effectively clean it. Carrying long metal poles (used for cleaning) in thunderstorms is not safe. If this happens, we will let you know in your service email.
Please pay your bill on time.
Billing goes out on the 20th of the month before service to give you plenty of time to pay your invoice. Invoices are due by the 10th of the current month. We send reminders to all outstanding invoices. If your account is 30 days or more outstanding, you will not receive service until your account is paid. Our preferred payment method is Zelle or Check (they don't charge us fees), you can also pay through your invoice in Quickbooks or PayPal.
My dog loves to swim, is that bad for my pool?
Many dogs LOVE water and we all LOVE our dogs. However, dogs are hard on pools. One dog is the equivalent to eight humans in regards to what’s “left behind” in the water. This includes hair, dirt and oils. Your pool will require more chemicals to keep it balanced, more vacuums to keep it clean and the filter will need to be cleaned more frequently. Dogs also increase the amount of phosphates left behind in the water. High phosphates require an additional treatment that is not covered in your monthly service. We’re not saying you can’t have your fur-babies in your pool - we just want you to know the results.
What are Phosphates?
Phosphates are organic materials that naturally occur in your pool. The most common cause are from dead leaves and lawn fertilizer. But there are many other sources such as pets, sunscreens, lotions, hair & body products. At high enough levels, phosphates feed algae to grow in your pool. This will turn your pool’s water green and cloudy. High phosphate levels also use up chlorine quickly, make algae growth more likely and makes it more difficult to maintain proper pool chemistry. If we notice a difficulty in balancing the chemicals in your pool or frequent algae growth, we will run a phosphate test. We will notify you if you have high phosphates and discuss the treatment options. Phosphate treatments are not included in your weekly service plan.
How can I keep my pool clean between visits?
Move all potted plants away from the pool especially when it rains. Wind, rain and falling foliage can dirty your pool. When potted plants get an excess of water, the soil frequently ends up in your pool if the pot is too close. Even runoff from plants several feet away can dirty your pool.
Keep your pool deck free of dirt and debris. Sweeping, spraying and even vacuuming your pool deck can make a big difference in the amount of dirt that ends up in your pool.
Door mats and rugs can help slow down the amount of dirt and debris that enters your pool area.
Foliage, rock or mulch around the outside perimeter of your pool deck can hold sand, soil and dirt in place during wind and rain.
Clean your pool cage screens. Using a blower, low pressure washer, sweeping or having a professional clear any debris from your pool cage screens will lower the amount of sediment that falls through the screen into your pool.
Clear branches overhead. The more foliage above your pool means more foliage IN your pool.
Still unsure, ask one of our pool professionals to give you a quick personalized assessment for your pool surroundings!
How often do you clean my filter?
Florida is different from many other states due to our hot humid weather and unforgiving sun. This also allows us to use our pool for longer and sometimes year round with a heater (or if you’re brave). In the summer months, we set our filter schedules to every 4 weeks or more frequently if needed. In the off season or winter months, we clean them every 6-8 weeks or more frequently if needed. Cleaning some filters too frequently can be hard on equipment and unnecessary. You will receive an email each time your filter is cleaned. There are several factors we consider when determining if your filter needs to be cleaned:
How your pool looks
PSI
Weather and temperature
Bather Load
Type of filter
Age of equipment
What is not covered in my monthly service?
Cleanups from major storms and hurricanes. If your pool and property are hit by a storm and the cleaning required is above and beyond our regular service - we will provide a written (emailed) estimate that requires your approval prior to rendering any services outside of the monthly cleaning package you choose. We are fair and reasonable should these situations arise.
Phosphate treatments. Every pool is different with phosphates. Some require treatments every year and some won’t need them for 3-5 years or even more in some cases. Refer to how to keep your pool clean between visits and dogs entering your pool to help you keep your phosphate levels down.
Deep filter cleans. Sand and DE filters can require deep cleans and sand change outs from time to time. While we do the basic backwash for these filters, the additional deep clean (taking components apart) is not covered in your monthly service.
Repairs. We do our best to stay on top of small repairs that do not take additional time - replacing o-rings and tightening fittings to prevent or stop leaks. From time to time your pool will require repairs and additional maintenance that is outside of the time allotted for your weekly service. We will notify you immediately of these circumstances and schedule a service call to remedy.
Salt Cell Cleaning. Salt cells require additional maintenance to clean and remove built up sediment and deposits. This is a time consuming process that we schedule as a service call outside of your regular weekly service. *Unless we've specified that this cleaning is included in your monthly service.
Service calls. If you need service outside of your regular weekly service time, we will schedule a service call. Examples include: your pool isn’t turning on, repairs or additional maintenance, special event additional cleaning (outside of your weekly service), installation of vacuums or other equipment.
